Damon McLay, piano
Biography
Damon McLay was born and raised in Homer, Alaska. At the University of Alaska Fairbanks he obtained a Bachelor of Music degree in Piano Performance, cum laude. In 1993 he won first place in the collegiate division of the Fairbanks Symphony Association Concerto Competition and performed with the symphony in their December concert. In the Fairbanks area, Damon found success as a piano teacher for over 10 years with a focus on individualized lessons. The strength of his instruction lies in his ability to tailor lessons to each student's learning style and his ability to teach a wide range of skills including note reading, chording and improvisation.
Damon also served as music director at two churches in the Fairbanks area collaborating programs involving mass choirs, handbells and orchestra. Damon created, led and provided lead vocals and keyboards for a modern rock band in Fairbanks. Most recently he music directed the musical Kiss Me Kate at Stockton Civic Theatre for which he was nominated Best Musical Direction.
